Erie homicide suspect charged with assaulting woman, attempting to steal car

Erie homicide suspect David A. Fry has been charged with committing another crime in the city.

Fry, 33, was arraigned before Erie 6th Ward District Judge Dominick DiPaolo Wednesday night on charges in the assault of a 70-year-old woman outside a westside grocery store on Friday.

Police accuse Fry of pushing the woman into her 2011 black Chrysler 2000, and elbowing her numerous times in the head, face and body, in an attempt to steal the car outside of the Tops Friendly Markets, 1520 W. 26th St., according to the criminal complaint filed in the case. The woman was attacked shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Friday, police said.

Police said the person who attacked the woman ran off after the woman dropped her keys and the car's alarm sounded. The woman, whom police did not name, was treated at Saint Vincent Health Center for her injuries.

Fry was arraigned earlier Wednesday on criminal homicide and other charges in the killing of Matthew Lyons, 36, at Lyons' apartment at Highpoint Towers, 2314 Sassafras St., on Saturday. He also was charged with attempting to rob the Shell station at East Sixth and Parade streets on the early morning of March 21, hours after police said he failed to return to a prison pre-release center in the city.

Fry has been additionally charged with committing three robberies in the Pittsburgh area.
