Homicide under investigation after body found off CR 25

BELLEVIEW - Detectives on Monday are working to determine the circumstances surrounding what they say is a homicide.

The deceased man is Mark Bazarsky, 48, according to Marion County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jenifer Lowe in a news release.


Detectives responded Sunday to 7520 E Hwy. 25 in Belleview after family members reported they had found Bazarsky dead in his home. Family members told detectives they last knew Bazarsky was alive on Friday.

The residence is a combination home and business, where Bazarsky reportedly repaired cars and trucks.

Detectives said that based on a gunshot wound, they believe Bazarsky was the victim of a homicide. They are speaking to several witnesses and persons of interest, according to Lowe.

Detectives have located Bazarsky's roommate, Matthew Arnell, 51, and are in the process of questioning him, noted the release. A firearm has not been located.

Flint's battlefield: A three-year murder map

FLINT, MI -- There have been 189 murders in the city since 2010. Below is a map of the locations of each murder in the last three years, as well as the names of the slain on Flint's battlefield. The spike in murders occurred almost immediately after large-scale layoffs in March of 2010. By year's end the city had set a record with 66 murders, breaking the previous mark of 61 set in 1986. Killing continued in 2011 with 57 murders. A look at the map shows the majority of the murders took place on the north and east sides, historically the most economically depressed areas of the city. Just 25 murders in the last three years occurred south of Court Street. The map is color-coded by year.
