Winnipeg police are investigating a homicide after finding two people dead in an apartment building on Jefferson Avenue Saturday morning.
Just before 11 a.m. officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1200 block of Jefferson to check on a resident, police said.
When they arrived they found two bodies inside the apartment.
CTV News has learned a woman may have been stabbed to death by a man in the apartment who then slit his own throat. Their bodies may have been in the unit for up to 24 hours before being discovered.
Police have not confirmed if it was in fact a murder-suicide but have confirmed a homicide took place.
Officers were still on scene on the second floor of the apartment building late in the afternoon Saturday.
Ken Smith, a man who lives in the building, said he didn't hear anything unusual Friday night. "(Police) asked me if I heard anything last night, and I said no," Smith said.
"There's been people coming and going so many times, I don't know too many upstairs," said Smith.
Another resident in the building told CTV a couple lived in the suite, and they had only been living there for about two months.
The homicide unit is currently investigating. The cause of death and identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
