Homicide investigation launched in Bonavista Bay death

The death of a man in a small town in Newfoundland's Bonavista Bay is being treated as a murder investigation, RCMP confirmed Saturday.

A man was found dead late Friday night in Trinity, Bonavista Bay, although police are releasing few details about the incident.

"It appears to be a manslaughter and it's being treated that way," Staff-Sgt. Randy Freeborn told CBC News.

Members of the force's major crime units in St. John's and Gander have been sent to the scene, as well as officers from the Gander and Lewisporte areas, Freeborn said.

No charges have yet been laid in the case, but Freeborn said police have identified several persons of interest.

RCMP are not disclosing details about the deceased man and how he died.

The incident happened at a home in the community.
