Possible homicide victim's body found near Lindbergh Field
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A passer-by found the body of a possible homicide victim Thursday in a patch of shrubbery on a roadside just west of Lindbergh Field.
The pedestrian spotted the unidentified dead man shortly before 8:30 a.m. while walking through a parking lot in the 4900 block of North Harbor Drive, near Nimitz Boulevard, according to San Diego police.
"Due to the unusual location and not knowing the status of the man, the citizen called the police department to check his welfare," SDPD Lt. Ernie Herbert said. "A San Diego Fire Department engine company arrived first and confirmed that the person was deceased."
Noticing at least one suspicious-looking wound on the body, patrol officers called in homicide detectives.
A cause-of-death ruling was on hold pending autopsy results, according to Herbert.
The county Medical Examiner's Office will try to identify the dead man, who appeared to have been in his 40s or early 50s.
