HAMER, SC (WMBF) - The trial of a man accused in a 2009 double homicide case in the Pee Dee begins Monday.

Robert Lee Nelson faces charges in connection to the murders of Walter and Mary Swaner, whose bodies were discovered in their Hamer home back in December of 2009.

Investigators say Walter Swaner, 84, and Mary Swaner, 80, were found around noon on December 21, 2009 at a residence in the 2400 block of Dixie Acres Road.

Dillon County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Nelson for the murder of the Swaners. A Deputy Solicitor tells WMBF News that this is no longer being tried as a death penalty case.
