Homicide victim to be laid to rest at last

Auckland homicide victim Jayne Furlong will finally be laid to rest, 19 years after she disappeared.

The 17-year-old, the mother of a six-month-old son and who was working as a prostitute, was last seen by friends in Karangahape Road on May 26, 1993.

She was reported missing by her boyfriend two days later, on May 28.

In May this year, her skeleton was uncovered at Port Waikato, where it had been buried in sand dunes.

Ms Furlong's funeral will be held in Auckland on Friday afternoon, followed by a private cremation.

Meanwhile, police are still seeking clues to Ms Furlong's disappearance.

Last month, police said she may have been alive some days after she was first reported missing.

Police are also seeking a man known as "Tommy", who was entered in her diary around the time she went missing.
