Homicide numbers up in Little Rock for 2012

LITTLE ROCK – Homicide numbers are up for 2012 so far in Little Rock, causing concern from police and residents.

The cold blooded murder of 31-year-old Terry London Tuesday night is devastating news to an already devastated community off Allis Street.

"He got along with everybody he ran across and I really don't understand why something like this would happen to him," said London's childhood friend Wakeyah Ross.

It's the 26th homicide of the year. At this point last year, there were 16 homicides.

One more statistic ten of this year's killings has happened within 5 miles of each other south of Interstate 630.

"I grew up in this neighborhood and it's sad, it makes you want to not come outside,

"There's nothing we can really put our finger on as far as when a homicide will occur," said Sgt. Cassandra Davis with the Little Rock Police Department.

Little Rock Police have identified 23-year-old Omar Griffis as the man suspected of killing London.

"He's an innocent bystander," said a friend asked to be identified only as Nicole. "He didn't deserve nothing, none of this. He's supposed to be here today."

His friends say the high amount of crime was already startling even before he became a statistic.

"Especially with Terry getting killed, that's just too close to home," said Ross.
