Homicide investigators probing inmate's death at North Fraser Pre-Trial Centre

METRO VANCOUVER - Homicide investigators are probing the death of an inmate at Port Coquitlam's North Fraser Pre-Trial Centre Sunday.

David William Brodrick, a 44-year-old from Vancouver, was found unresponsive in his cell on the evening of July 15, Cpl. Adam MacIntosh said in a news release.

B.C. Corrections staff, B.C. Ambulance and members of the Coquitlam Fire Department attempted unsuccessfully to revive Brodrick.

"As a result of the in-custody death, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken conduct of the investigation," MacIntosh said.

"We are working with BC Corrections to determine what occurred in the cell of Mr. Brodrick prior to his death," he said.

Corrections official Marnie Mayhew called the death a tragedy.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to this inmate's family and friends. BC Corrections takes the death of an inmate in custody very seriously and we will be conducting a Critical Incident Review to examine the circumstances of this death," she said.

More to come.
