Man charged with auto murder, DUI after fatal motorcycle crash in Lindon

A 22-year-old Provo man was charged with automobile murder Thursday stemming from an alcohol-fueled crash that killed a motorcyclist last week.

Tyler Ren Young was charged Thursday in 4th District Court with automobile murder, a second degree felony, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a class A misdemeanor.

The crash occurred at 1 a.m. on Sept. 14 on southbound Interstate 15 in Lindon. Young, driving a Mitsubishi Galant, allegedly rear-ended a Kawasaki motorcycle with two men on board, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The collision spilled both bike riders onto the asphalt, where the rear passenger was subsequently run over by three vehicles.

The victim, identified as Juan Ernesto Salazar Conce, 31, of Orem, was dead at the scene. The bike's driver, Irving Tellez Acevedo, 23, of Spanish Fork, was taken to Utah Regional Medical Center in Provo with non-life threatening injuries.

Both occupants of the bike were wearing helmets, UHP said.

Young told police that he didn't see the motorcycle before the accident because he was distracted by food and his phone, according to court documents. A breath test done at the scene showed Young's breath-alcohol content at 0.148, nearly twice the legal limit.

There was no evidence that Young swerved or attempted to brake prior to the collision, according to court documents.

EVERETT -- Police on Wednesday were canvassing the View Ridge-Madison neighborhood in Everett after a man was found dead there the night before. A neighbor spotted the man on the ground outside a vacant house at 22 Madison St. He called 911 about 6:20 p.m. The man had obvious signs of trauma to his torso, police said. Manslaughter charges possible in boy's death

Monroe police this week wrapped up their probe into the boy's Jan. 30 death and forwarded the case to prosecutors to decide if his parents should face criminal charges. Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Lisa Paul likely will begin reviewing the case in the coming days. She doesn't expect to make a charging decision in the near future, however.
