The Trentonian Launches Homicide Watch Partnership

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Sep 24, 2012) - Digital First Media, which operates MediaNews Group, Journal Register Company and Digital First Ventures, today announced a partnership between The Trentonian and Homicide Watch.

The partnership marks the first time Homicide Watch has licensed software to a media partner to carry on the sites' mission statement to: "Mark every death. Remember every victim. Follow every case."

"Traditional crime reporting has been a 'just the facts' approach. This partnership goes beyond the names, time and location of the crime and delivers context," said Jim Brady, Editor-in-Chief of Digital First Media.

The Trentonian staff is currently tracking 14 homicides from in and around New Jersey's capitol city in 2012 on http://trenton.homicidewatch.org/.

"Homicide Watch is known for covering every homicide from crime to conviction and Trenton deserves that level of commitment and The Trentonian -- through this partnership -- is making that commitment," said Mr. Brady.

Homicide Watch was founded in Washington, D.C. by Laura and Chris Amico. The pair focused on community-driven reporting to cover every murder in the nation's capital by using original reporting, court documents and social media to cover every homicide in the city.

The Trenton-focused Homicide Watch site features a database of all homicide victims including photos, profiles, related stories and a section for comments. The site also features a homicide map, a suspects' page, photo galleries and a section dedicated to arrest and court documents.

"We believe this is a model that can work in any community where people are looking for a better way to understand and talk about violent crime," said Chris Amico. "Homicide affects so many people beyond those who show up in most news stories, and this platform provides newsrooms new tools and methods to better include new voices."
