Donnelly homicide investigation continues after arrest

The homicide investigation into the death of Mary Donnelly in Upper Hutt late last month is continuing, following an arrest being made earlier this week.

Mary Donnelly, aged 38 years, was found dead in her Ebdentown Street flat by family members on the evening of Thursday 30 August 2012. On Wednesday this week (19 September), a 28 year old man was arrested and charged with her murder.

Acting officer in charge of the Hutt Valley CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton says whilst Police are pleased to have made an arrest in relation to Mary's death, the 20-strong investigation team still has further enquiries to undertake.

"We are interested of any sightings of a male Maori, aged in his late 20's or early 30s, of solid build and average height with dark wavy hair on Wednesday 29 August 2012, especially in the vicinity of the block of flats at 20 Ebdentown Street, where Mary lived."

He says, "Police are particularly interested to identify and speak to a male teenager who was seen talking with this unknown male in Ebdentown Street around 5:15pm on Wednesday 29 August, before the pair headed left towards Fergusson Drive."

"The young man is described as Maori, of small build with brown hair and was wearing a distinctive bright white jacket. He has done nothing wrong and is not in any form of trouble, however we would like to speak to him in relation to our investigation into Mary's death and I urge him to come forward and speak with Police."

Anyone with any information should contact the Operation Town investigation team on (04) 560 4961 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
