Homicide charges filed against man in fatal Fitchburg stabbing

Homicide charges were filed Wednesday against a man authorities say fatally stabbed another man after breaking down the door of a Fitchburg apartment a year after being granted early release from prison.

Bail was set at $ 310,000 for Dominique Hale, 25, who is charged with first-degree intentional murder in the Sept. 8 death of Willie Taylor, 39.

Hale, who was on parole at the time, also is charged with armed burglary and misdemeanor battery.

According to a criminal complaint:

Porsha Davis, a former girlfriend of Hale and friend of Taylor, told police that Taylor had come to her Greenway Cross apartment at about 4 a.m. to bring her cough medicine because she was sick.

Davis told police that Hale was obsessed with her and had been violent with her in the past and that she had a bad feeling about Taylor coming over. She said Hale was dominating and was not willing to let her go when she tried on numerous occasions to end their relationship.

After Taylor arrived, Hale began banging on her bedroom window and her door and calling her cellphone asking who was with her, she said.

After she and Taylor called 911, Davis said, Hale began kicking the apartment door. After trying to kick in a patio door, Hale returned to the chained front door and kicked it in as Taylor and Davis tried to hold it closed.

Hale then went after Taylor, who fell backward. Taylor was unable to defend himself because of a physical disability.

Taylor made it out of the apartment to the front sidewalk, where Hale struck him and "knocked him out," said Davis, who saw Hale making slashing motions over Taylor and heard him yell repeatedly, "I'm going to kill you."

Davis, who also was cut, said Hale chased and threatened her.

Dane County Medical Examiner Vincent Tranchida found Taylor suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest.

Michelle Homesly, who said she and Taylor had been together for 12 years and have two children ages 10 and 11, tried to address Hale during his court appearance.

Afterward, she said it was "heartbreaking" that Hale had been released from prison early after being convicted of kidnapping, battery, reckless endangerment and false imprisonment.

Hale was arrested for allegedly firing gunshots inside Frida, a former State Street restaurant and night club, on Jan. 1, but his parole was not revoked because the case could not be proved. Those charges were dropped, and Hale was released from Dane County Jail in June.

EVERETT -- Police on Wednesday were canvassing the View Ridge-Madison neighborhood in Everett after a man was found dead there the night before. A neighbor spotted the man on the ground outside a vacant house at 22 Madison St. He called 911 about 6:20 p.m. The man had obvious signs of trauma to his torso, police said. He looked to be in his late 20s or early 30s. The Everett Major Crimes Unit is investigating the death as a homicide, Lt. Robert Goetz said. Detectives declined to say more about how they believe the man may have died. There are no identified suspects or motives. Detectives received a search warrant around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday and collected evidence at the scene. They returned Wednesday afternoon to look for clues in the daylight, Goetz said. Manslaughter charges possible in boy's death

Published: Thursday, August 23, 2012, 5:55 p.m. MONROE -- Detectives believe a 7-year-old Monroe boy's parents should face second-degree manslaughter charges in connection with his January overdose death. Monroe police this week wrapped up their probe into the boy's Jan. 30 death and forwarded the case to prosecutors to decide if his parents should face criminal charges. Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Lisa Paul likely will begin reviewing the case in the coming days. She doesn't expect to make a charging decision in the near future, however. "It's quite an extensive investigation, and I want to review it thoroughly before I make any decision," she said. The boy, identified as "A.J." in court papers, ingested a lethal amount of salicylates, a chemical common in aspirin and other over-the-counter drugs.
