KING CITY, Calif. —

A murder in King City left a 22-year-old man dead in his front yard Monday night.

The victim was standing in front of his house on the 100 block of Division Street at 8:30 p.m. when he was shot in the head and chest, police Capt. Bruce Miller said.

His mother and younger sisters were inside their house when more than a dozen shots were fired by a drive-by shooter. Police did not release the victim's name and no suspects have been arrested.

"The victim is an active southern Hispanic gang member, but the motive for the murder has yet to be determined," Miller said.

It was King City's second murder of 2012.

On Sept. 2, 25-year-old Diego Romero was shot to death at 402 7th St. in King City. Romero was pronounced dead at Mee Memorial Hospital. His friend, Anthony Navarro, 19, was also shot but survived.

Six days later, police arrested Juan Serrano Jimenez, 22, of King City, was arrested on suspicion of murdering Romero and attempting to murder Navarro.
