Homicide In A Hospital

A man is dead after overdosing at Altoona Regional Medical Center. And now police and the Blair County District Attorney's office say that someone killed him. Mary Ann Denny, says police found something in the hospital room.

"...They had found a syringe, in the room when they were cleaning it, and it did not belong to the hospital."

Police say someone killed Charles Boyd Denny Sr. in July of 2011. The District Attorney says the 64 year old Vietnam vet from Tyrone overdosed on the antidepressant drug Zoloft. Mary Ann is Denny's wife. She and her mother were some of the last people to see him. Mary Ann thinks the hospital could be responsible.

"This one nurse would come in, call him by a different name, try and wake him up, and she says she was coming in every 15 minutes giving him shots, she says I don't know what he was being given."

Wade Kagarise is the Chief Deputy District Attorney in Blair County. His office is being tight lipped since the investigation is ongoing.

"Not going to comment"

We asked Kagerise if hospital staff could be at fault.

"There isn't any evidence to suggest that there was any wrong doing on the part of any employees of the hospital..."

Denny originally checked into the hospital after a sudden weight gain on a Monday, slipped into a coma, was put on dialysis, and died just over three days later at 1:45 am that Friday morning. Mary Ann says she was called in for questioning for about five hours soon after his death.

"Why would I want to do that? I'm not that kind of person."

We asked Kagerise if Mary Ann was a suspect.

"We're not going to comment on any suspects at this time."

Charles Sr. did have life insurance and other benefits through the V.A., but Mary Ann Denny says he didn't have a will. She maintains that she didn't kill her husband for financial gain.

Kagerise acknowledges that finances could be a motive in a case like this.

"every case is different, but obviously in any homicide investigation, you're going to look at a number of different factors, a motive for any crime."

Mary Ann knows that there are people out there saying she killed her husband for money.

"Im sure people are saying that. But im sorry I still have bills... Like every marriage we had our ups and downs... We always told each other if something happens to me, I want you to go on with your life..."
