Homicide off Hwy 26 in Shelby County

A man, 52-year-old William Moore, Jr. was found dead in his Shelby County home.  Investigators said he was a victim of a homicide.

An autopsy confirmed he did not die of natural causes.  Also, his 2003 black Hummer is missing.

Alabama's 13 Digital Journalist Kalisha Whitman went to the area.  Whitman said some of the people in the area didn't even realize that type of crime happened.

Whitman spoke to three people - two of them off camera.  They said they hadn't seen Moore's Hummer in a few days.  They didn't really know him or a lot about him, but they were shocked to hear he was the victim of a homicide.

The person who Whitman spoke to on camera, Bea Massey, said to her knowledge this is the first time a homicide has happened in her community.

She said she is not scared; however, she will be watchful.

Massey said, "I'm going to contain my nerves. I will make sure my doors are locked and my windows stay locked."

An arrest has not been made. Investigators said they do not believe this was a random act or that there is any immediate threat to other residents in the area.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact the Shelby County Sheriff's Office directly at (205)669-4181, through the secret witness line at (205)669-9116.
