Stockton PD: Credible tips coming in on Victory Park homicide

Homicide detectives said they are closer to finding two men wanted in last year's gold chain robbery and homicide at Victory Park, thanks to several new and credible tips.

Armando Pina, 60, was walking in Victory Park on Sept. 17, 2012, when two men in their teens to mid-20s approached him for his gold chain. Pina was shot and later died at a hospital.

The men were last seen going south on Columbia Avenue away from the park.

"My dad said those kids shot him for his lousy gold chain. Cancer didn't take my dad, those thieves took my dad," said Armando Pina's daughter, Rita Pina.

After KCRA 3 recently aired a story about homicides in Stockton,  detectives said they received several tips regarding Pina's homicide.

"The tipsters have stated the suspects responsible for this homicide are responsible for several other homicides that occurred during the same time last year," said Stockton police Officer Joe Silva.

Homicide detectives believe the recent tips are credible.

The department is encouraging anyone with information related to Armando Pina's death to call the Stockton Police Department at 209-937-8377.  Callers can remain anonymous.
