Denver police identify homicide suspect still on the loose

Denver Police are asking for the public's help in finding a suspect in a homicide that occurred Monday.

The suspect, Martin Trusty, 47, is wanted for suspicion of first-degree murder.

Police were called to the area of West 11th Avenue and Santa Fe Drive at about 5:49 p.m. on Feb. 18 on a report of an assault.

When they arrived, police found 44-year-old Darwin Brown, who had been assaulted. Brown was transported to the hospital, but died a short time later.

Police have released little details about the incident other than to say the suspect appeared to have run away.

Court records show Trusty has a lengthy criminal history dating to 1986 including multiple charges of drugs and burglary.

Trusty's run ins with the law also earned him jail time for drug and escape charges on various occasions.

A person by the same age and name as the victim had recently served jail time for theft.

In that 2011 case, a person by the name of Darwin Brown was accused of stealing a truck while the owner was sleeping in the truck's camper in the truck's bed. After driving for more than two hours, the truck ran out of gas and police were able to apprehend Brown.

Police documents from the time listed Brown's home at the St. Francis Center homeless shelter.
