The Syracuse Police Department is investigating a manslaughter that happened early Tuesday morning at South Salina Street and Calthrop Street at the Route 81 on-ramp, Sgt. Tom Connellan says in an email.

The victim is identified as 18-year-old Mahliek Starling of Syracuse.  He was shot while riding in a 2010 Chevrolet Impala at that intersection at around 1 AM.

There were two other occupants in the car with Starling and they drove him to Upstate University Hospital.  He was pronounced dead a short time after his arrival.

So far, the investigation has revealed that the shots were fired from another vehicle into the Impala, police say.  Detectives are currently talking to the other occupants of the Impala as they try to gather more information.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

Anyone with information on this manslaughter is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at 315-442-5222.  All calls will be kept confidential.
