Homicide investigation on Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds along Jammes Road early Friday morning.

Police said someone passing by saw the body in a ditch about 7:15 a.m. and called 911.

Jammes Road homicide scene "There are several shell casings on the sidewalk next to the victim. He apparently has been shot," said to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jay Farhat.

The victim was not immediately identified, although police said he was a black man in his 20s or 30s.

"We don't know who he is," Farhat said. "We have no idea."

Police are questioning people in the area, including residents of the nearby Treetop Apartments, hoping to find a witness to what happened.

Jammes Road was closed between Morse Avenue and Turknett Road due to the police investigation until just after noon.
