CLEVELAND -- What began as a car on fire call has become an investigation for the Cleveland homicide department.

The Cleveland fire department responded to a car fire on Florida Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday night.

The fire department found a man inside, broke the windows and pulled the man to safety.  The fire department noticed that he appeared to have gunshot wound to his head so they called for Cleveland Police and EMS.

EMS pronounced the man, in his mid to late 20's, dead at the scene.

The fire department says the car was not actually on fire but had filled with smoke, possibly due to the man having pressed on the accelerator.

There are no other details being released except a crime scene has been blocked off with yellow crime scene tape.

The car has been towed from the scene. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office has been called to the scene.

Anyone who may have any details about what happened or what they saw should call the Cleveland Homicide Unit at 216.623.5464.
