YPSILANTI, Mich., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Police in Michigan say they are investigating the slaying of Eastern Michigan University student Julia Niswender, who was found dead in her apartment last week.

The 23-year-old student was found dead by police inside her locked bedroom Tuesday after her roommates said they hadn't seen her in several days and notified authorities, AnnArbor.com reported Monday.

The cause of Niswender's death is pending. The Washtenaw County medical examiner's autopsy report said there were no outward signs of trauma and toxicology results are not in, the Ypsilanti Courier reported.

Niswender graduated from Monroe High School in 2008 and Monroe Community College in 2011, the Detroit Free Press said.

The woman was double-majoring in communications and electronic media and film at EMU.

Niswender's funeral was scheduled for 11 a.m. local time today in Monroe Township. She is survived by her parents and twin sister, Jennifer, the newspaper reported.
