Police investigate Ashburton homicide

Police will be door-knocking and reviewing CCTV footage today as they investigate the homicide of a young Ashburton mother.

Sina Nerisa Solomona was dropped her home around 2.30 on Saturday morning after working at a meat factory.

Her half brother found her just 15 minutes later, lying in a pool of blood, a broken knife near her body.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Rae says Ms Solomona had traumatic head injuries and tried to talk to the 15-year-old but he couldn't understand and ran for help.

Mr Rae says nothing appears to have been taken.

"There's not TVs missing or anything like that, we can't say that there hasn't been a burglary but we hopefully will find out when we're able to get the owners back into the house."

John Rae says the family's devastated by Ms Solomona's death and is caring for her three-year-old daughter.

CPR couldn't save the 22-year-old whose left behind a three-year-old daughter.

A post mortem examination will be carried out this morning.
