Ashburton death a homicide, say police

Police say they are now treating the death of an Ashburton woman at the weekend as a homicide.

Sina Nerisa Solomona was found dead in her home on Cass Street on Saturday morning with what police described as traumatic head injuries.

A post-mortem examination on her body hadn't been completed by late Monday afternoon but Detective Senior Sergeant John Rae said staff had obtained enough evidence to say they were dealing with a homicide.

Det Snr Sgt Rae said examinations at the home had found a weapon, though he wouldn't say what it was.

Police continue to speak to associates of the 22-year-old victim and will continue examining the scene on Tuesday.

Police want to hear from anyone with information.
