The suspect in a murder investigation from several months ago near City Heights has pleaded not guilty.

Officers arrested Southcrest resident Frank Shaw, 36, Thursday morning at his residence. He appeared in court Monday for his arraignment.

Shaw is a suspect of stabbing to death Maureen Skeffington, 48, in her bathtub. He denied all charges in court Monday.

On Aug. 28, police were dispatched to Skeffington's City Heights apartment to check on her welfare. Her neighbors told police they hadn't seen her since the previous Sunday.

When officers entered the apartment, they noticed blood inside and found Skeffington had been stabbed to death. She was laying face down in the bathtub, said Brian Erickson, Deputy District Attorney.

Police said Shaw was identified as a suspect in Skeffington's murder early on in the investigation. The motive for the murder is unclear. However, Shaw was the last person to contact Skeffington, and has direct ties to the crime scene, Erickson said.

A judge set Shaw's bail at $ 1 million because Erickson said he was a danger to the public. He added that Shaw has prior convictions for an armed robbery in 1997, to which Shaw pleaded guilty.

Shaw faces 82 years to life in prison if convicted.
