Christopher Campbell was found about 11 p.m. in a black Cadillac that had crashed in the 1500 block of Providence Road, police said.
Officers arrived in the area of northwest Lakeland after receiving a call about gunshots being fired in the 1200 block of Wright Drive, near where they discovered Campbell, police said. Officers canvassed the neighborhood but couldn't find witnesses.
The owner of the Cadillac told officers that Campbell had borrowed the car to meet someone, but the owner didn't know the person or the reason for the meeting.
Police have made no arrests in the case this morning.
Campbell and his family went to Mount Calvary M. B. Church, which is less than a mile from where officers found him.
