A man was killed yesterday after he was shot following an argument about a vehicle registration, family members said.

Jaron L. Kirkling, 26, of the Northeast Side, was shot several times near a green Chevrolet SUV parked in the driveway of a house at 1799 Huy Rd. in Clinton Township. Family members who gathered outside the home yesterday said Kirkling recently had purchased the vehicle.

Kirkling got into an argument with Brandon L. Hobbs, 22, about the vehicle's ownership at about 3 p.m., Franklin County sheriff's detectives said. The argument escalated until investigators say Hobbs shot Kirkland several times before fleeing.

Detectives said Kirkling was taken to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Deputies were searching for Hobbs late last night.

Jamie Price, 56, of Minerva Park, said Kirkling was her nephew. "He was a good kid," she said. " It was all about some license plates."

Anyone with information about the shooting, or Hobbs' location, can call the sheriff's office at 614-525-3333.
