Omaha police investigating homicide

Without a shooting scene and unable to interview the victim before he died, Omaha police do not have a lot of information for their investigation into the city's 36th homicide.

22-year-old Derek Huntley drove himself to the Alegent Creighton Health Center Saturday around 12:30 in the afternoon.

Police were called to the hospital, but did not have a chance to speak with Huntley before he died from his injuries.

Huntley's friend Malory said the 22-year-old was "a really good person. He was always smiling and took good care of his mom and 2 younger brothers. At least he is in a better place now and I'm sure I will see him one day."

Officer Michael Pecha said, "It is taking a little bit extra time for officers to track down information as to the location of the crime and in turn find witnesses who may have information about this homicide."

Pecha said officers are following up on shots fired calls from around the area to see if they might be connected.

You are urged to call detectives at (402)-444-5652 or Crime Stoppers at (402)-444-STOP if you have any information that could help police solve this homicide.
