Austin police ask for tips in weekend homicide cases

Austin police are looking for tips on two separate homicide cases that occurred over the weekend.

At a press conference Monday, investigators said Adam Gonzalez, 33, was found dead in a parking lot shortly before 9:30 p.m. Friday in North Austin. Witnesses told police the victim was involved in a disturbance with a man and woman at the location in the 8600 block of North Lamar Boulevard, south of Payton Gin Road.

Police said a disagreement over personal property is the possible motive for the crime but did not release further information. The victim lived at a nearby apartment, police said. His death has been ruled a homicide as a result of multiple stab wounds, according to an autopsy.

Investigators said another man was found found dead early Monday inside an apartment in Northwest Austin. Police said officers responded to a call about 12:30 a.m. at the complex in the 124o0 block of Alameda Trace Circle, near West Parmer Lane.

Tenants of the apartment told officers that they could not get inside their unit because the door was obstructed and believed a man was dead inside. Authorities and emergency responders discovered the body of Mohammad Omar, 22, inside, police said.

Investigators said the victim did not live in the apartment but did not release information as to how he was able to get inside. His death has been ruled a homicide as a result of a gunshot wound. No one has been arrested or charged with the crime, police said.

Police have not released any more information on a separate homicide case involving the death of 16-year-old Jorge Louis Medina Jr., who officials on Friday said had died from injuries he sustained in a fight the day before on Uphill Lane just off East Riverside Drive in Southeast Austin.

A fire that burned part of an abandoned house at the scene late Friday is believed to have been set in connection with the "large fight," fire officials said.

Homicide detectives are asking anyone with information about any of the incidents to call the homicide tip line at 477-3588 or Crime Stoppers at 472-8477.
