Willimantic man charged with manslaughter in death of 3-year-old - Norwich Bulletin

A Willimantic resident has been charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter, state police said.

The victim, Athena Angeles, of 112 School St., Willimantic, was transported to Windham Hospital in cardiac arrest late Wednesday and died, police said. The 3-year-old lived at the same address as her mother, her 2-year-old sister, and the mother's boyfriend, Fredy Alexander Chingo Riz, age 23.

Following an investigation by the Windham County State's Attorney Office and the state police's Eastern District Major Crime Squad, Chingo Riz was arrested and charged with manslaughter, risk of injury, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault, police said in a press release. He is being held on $ 1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court today (Friday, Nov. 25).

A Thursday autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Athena Angeles died from blunt abdominal and chest trauma and ruled the death a homicide, police said.
