Mother and Boyfriend Charged After Boy Killed on Fourth Birthday - Fox News

The mother of a Chicago boy who died on his fourth birthday Friday and her boyfriend were charged Sunday afternoon in his murder.

Cesar Ruiz, 34, was charged with one count each of first degree murder and concealment of a homicide, police said. He was also wanted for an outstanding warrant for having a suspended/revoked license.

The boy's mother, 28-year-old Crystal Valdez, was charged with concealment of a homicide and child endangerment resulting in a death.

Both are expected to appear in Central Bond Court on Monday.

Christopher was killed at the family's home, authorities said. His body was found by his grandparents, who had come with a birthday cake and presents for his fourth birthday.

Police said the boy was dead when they arrived at the home about 2:10 p.m. Friday. He appeared to have died from "multiple blunt force trauma."

A Saturday autopsy determined Christopher died from multiple blunt force injuries and child abuse, and the death was ruled a homicide.
