Homicide investigators are probing the death of a 4-week-old girl who was found unresponsive in her parent's northern New Jersey home last week.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says Lila Roman was pronounced dead around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday at a local hospital, shortly after she was taken off life support.

Murray says the infant had sustained serious injuries, including a broken arm and retinal hemorrhaging, and had been considered brain dead. But Murray says the cause of death has not yet been determined.

Child endangerment charges were filed Nov. 16 against the infant's parents, 29-year-old Jimmy Roman and his 27-year-old wife, Vanessa Roman. The charges came one day after emergency services crews had responded to the couple's Belleville home after a caller there reported the child was unresponsive.
