Murder investigation launched after four-year-old boy dies
Police and ambulance services were called to an address in Oakworth, West Yorkshire, at 4.40am this morning following reports that a four-year-old boy had died.
The child was taken to Airedale General Hospital by ambulance, and was pronounced dead despite the efforts of paramedics.
Officers from West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team have now launched a homicide investigation, and arrested a 32-year-old man from Keighley, West Yorks, at 11.30am.
The man was arrested on suspicion of homicide and is currently in police custody.
This afternoon, police were searching drains and gutters near to the address where the boy was found, cordoning off a 200m stretch of road.
Neighbours reported seeing armed police walking up and down the road at about 8am, with uniformed officers currently guarding the area.
Residents in the area this morning said they were "shocked" at what had happened, and claimed the four-year-old boy was one on a set of twins.
One resident said: "We woke up to see police with machine guns walking up the road, lots of police. Its all up the other end so I don't know who they are."
Another added: "We saw all the commotion this moring, lots and lots of police, they had the whole road blocked off.
"We didn't know what had happened there we found out who had been killed, I just couldn't believe it. This is a really quiet area."
