Homicide probe after shot man dies

A 23-year-old has died in Middlemore hospital two weeks after he was shot in the stomach at a property in Eastland Rd, Flat Bush, on January 2.

"Counties Manukau Police have now launched a homicide investigation," Detective Inspector Jim Gallagher said.

Currently two men have been arrested and charged in relation to the shooting.

"A post-mortem will be conducted over the next few days and liabilities will be assessed in the development of the investigation," said Gallagher.

Gareth Heron appeared in the Manukau District Court was charged with unlawful possession of a .22 rifle and ammunition and was remanded in custody until January 30.

The 25-year-old was arrested on January 4 at a Tuakau address after he had made contact with police following sightings of his car which was seen speeding from the scene.

A 29-year-old man who lived at the Eastland Rd address also appeared in court today on a firearms charge and was remanded in custody until January 30.

Police have recovered the firearm used in the incident and it has been part of forensic analysis.
