Police investigate apparent homicide

Police are investigating an apparent homicide in Canberra after a woman was found dead with multiple stab wounds. The body of a 30-year-old woman was found by a relative in a room of the house in Macgregor around 4:00pm AEDT yesterday. The woman had sustained a number of stab wounds. Overnight police carried out a search warrant and seized a number of items for forensic examination. They expect to carry out further search warrants today. Police say two men are currently assisting them with their enquires. A post mortem examination will be conducted tomorrow. Police say they are unable to provide any further details about the woman until all family members are notified. They are treating the death as suspicious and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Homicide victim found in Valrico home

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - Investigators say a homeowner came home around 4:00 p.m. to what appeared to be a burglary at 1915 Erin Brooke Drive. The owner immediately left and called authorities, according to a sheriff's statement. When deputies arrived and searched the home, they discovered the body of a male in a bedroom.  After a search warrant was secured, homicide detectives entered the home around 11:30 p.m. Investigators were removing various things from the home, including a headboard, a scooter, and other items as late as Wednesday afternoon. The victim had suffered trauma to the body, according to the statement.  The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. Detectives do not believe the incident is a random act and that the victim is known to the suspect(s). Hillsborough deputies investigating homicide in Tampa

TAMPA — Hillsborough County deputies identified the Tampa man found fatally shot in an apartment complex parking lot early Wednesday as 21-year-old Sergio Gabriel Alexande Smith of Tampa. Deputies responded to Avesta Apartments, 2020 131st Ave. E, at 2:51 a.m. after receiving an emergency call about a man lying in the parking lot. When deputies arrived, they found him dead next to his vehicle. Smith may have had some of his belongings removed, and it appears someone may have rifled through his car, said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter. Deputies had not identified any suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and no other information was immediately available. Murder charges planned after 5 slayings in SF home

By TERRY COLLINS | Associated Press  –  8 hrs ago SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Prosecutors plan to file murder charges against a Vietnamese immigrant suspected in the slayings of five people in a San Francisco home, authorities said Tuesday. Binh Thai Luc , 35, will be charged with five counts of homicide with special circumstances because there were multiple homicides, said Assistant District Attorney Omid Talai . The special circumstances make him eligible for the death penalty. Luc is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in San Francisco Superior Court. He was arrested Sunday for investigation of killing five people whose bodies were found Friday in what police initially thought was a homicide-suicide. Authorities have identified the victims as Hua Shun Lei , 65, and Wan Yi Xi , 62, who were married, and their children Vincent Lei , 32, and Ying Xue Lei, 37. Manslaughter trial over balcony death

IAN STEWARD Police allege an Auckland man charged with homicide prised a man's fingers off a balcony railing as he hung there, causing him to fall to his death. Details of the case against Barry Harwood, 64, emerged at a call-over in the High Court at Auckland this morning. Justice Timothy Brewer said the police summary of their case said Harwood attacked Stewart Paul Kingi, 57, after a day of drinking on March 10, 2010. Harwood allegedly "flew into a rage because he (the victim) had wet himself". Police said Harwood attacked the victim on the floor of a Pt England apartment and then took him out onto the second-storey balcony. He and another man, Michael Manga, 37, allegedly threw Kingi over the balcony, though Kingi held on.
